Note

1 Given that Frye does not mention in her discussion of persons who are batterers and/or procurers of sexual slaves anything about mental illnesses, I take it that she does not wish to allow the assumption, which many seem to want to, that these behaviors can be explained (away) under the heading of conditions in which people do not properly understand the world or their own actions. Certainly I am not willing to allow such a move. There are probably some among the millions of child abusers in the world who do suffer from such conditions, but the idea that all or even most of them do seems absurd to me. Given the fairly standard estimate that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before they turn 18, there are millions of abused children, and that means millions of perpetrators, even if most perpetrators have multiple victims. See for example the U.S. Department of Justice’s web page on child abuse and sexual assault statistics, https://www.nsopw.gov/en-US/Education/FactsStatistics.
